No more are the days in which societies were controlled by the gun. The masses had no say over the affairs of their own livelihoods. Absolute control was in the hands of a few unelected clicks. Societies were at their mercy and could not change the decision even if they didn’t like it.

What boggles one’s mind is the huge difference in attitude between the masses that lived then and the ones of today. Despite having no voice, they operated in unity, oneness instead of division. They envisioned a future where society would be free of terror and treachery. Even with an extremely difficult task, they achieved remarkable victories that we can all be grateful for. They launched a systematic attack on autocracy and birthed the greatest gift to mankind: democracy.

The ballot is the open secret to the success of societies today but the masses are complacent to make use of it. Politicians know this and they encourage low participation in matters of governance for the masses so that they keep power to themselves. Its time for society to make use of the power they have and transform societies for the better. Those of old longed to live in a society that we live in now. They desired to have the opportunity to choose their leaders and shape the future of their society.

Women and youth will not be able to achieve emancipation if the same demographics do not utilize the power that already exists in them. Go vote, make the time be involved in the process of selecting your local leaders. Let your voice be heard and show up for your community’s future.
